Presentation
The Master in Aquaculture Engineering and Management (MAES) is a partnership between the Setúbal School of Technology of Setúbal from Instituto Politécnico, Polytechnic University and the School of Science and Technology of the University of Évora. It aims to respond to the current needs of the job market and it is in line with the National Strategy for the Sea. It enables training professionals in the fields of rational and sustainable aquaculture production, while also ensuring the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Furthermore, it promotes investment in processing technologies to guarantee the quality of aquaculture products, from farm to final consumer.
Objectives
Professionals with this training will possess the autonomy and foresight to effectively analyse, diagnose, and make informed decisions when faced with diverse situations. Persons qualified with this master will demonstrate leadership, planning, coordination, and managerial skills necessary to be CEO of the companies, as well as spearheading research projects aimed at enhancing cultivation processes, diversifying species production, and overseeing the entire aquaculture production lifecycle. This comprehensive training encompasses the study of aquatic animal and plant production across freshwater, brackish, and saltwater systems, consistently prioritizing sustainable development practices and the responsible management and preservation of natural ecosystems.
Syllabus
MAES consists of a school part (specialization course) and a Thesis/Project/Internship curricular unit.
Approval in the curricular units that make up the specialization course confers a Specialization Diploma.
Approval in all curricular units that make up the Study Plan awards a Master's Degree.

Application conditions and requirements
Who can apply to the Master’s in Aquaculture Engineering and Management?
• Holders of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent in the areas of Science, Technology and Engineering, in the areas of environment and the sea, animal production, marine sciences, biology, ecology and marine biology and food technology;
• Holders of a foreign/international higher academic degree awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process, by a State adhering to this Process;
• Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree, by the statutorily competent scientific body of the higher education establishment where they wish to be admitted;
• Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the Technical-Scientific Council where they wish to be admitted.
The scientific council committee of the Master will select the candidates for enrolment in the course, taking into account their academic, scientific and professional curricula.
For students finishing their graduation at ESTSetúbal/IPS
Students in the final year of the graduation course at ESTSetúbal/IPS can also apply, as long as they meet the conditions required HERE.
