  • Course objectives

    The Higher Professional Technical Course in Nature Sports enables the acquisition of knowledge and skills to support, organise and promote nature sports programmes, integrating methodologies and techniques appropriate to the context in which environmentally friendly activities are developed.

    Professionals trained in nature sports by ESE-IPS have the skills to plan and organise nature sports programmes in a natural setting, in specific technical areas or in facilities built for the purpose. Assisting in the organisation and management of sporting events that take place essentially in a natural environment, planning activities in accordance with the rules and legislation applicable to nature sports, promoting the safety and well-being of participants. Implementing activities involving techniques inherent to nature sports, contributing to the adequate participation of potential participants and promoting healthy lifestyle habits through the practice of physical activity and sports carried out in nature.



    Exceptional natural resources, together with favourable weather conditions and the Setúbal Peninsula's vocation for regional development closely linked to tourism, have led to an increase in the number of practitioners, both in the area of recreational sport associated with moments of leisure and escape, and in the competitive area, with important results at national and international level achieved by athletes from the region in a wide variety of nature sports.

    The main areas of intervention are: Planning and organising, under supervision, nature sports programmes carried out in the natural environment, in specific technical areas or facilities built for the purpose. Assisting in the organisation and management of nature sports events, targeting specific audiences and respecting all the stages of proper planning. Supporting the organisation and implementation of nature sports programmes for groups with special needs. Collaborating in the management of the material and human resources needed to carry out nature sports programmes. Planning activities in accordance with the rules and legislation applicable to nature sports and the environment, promoting the safety and well-being of participants. Supervising and running nature sports programmes, providing an autonomous framework for participants and ensuring group management and compliance with safety rules. Implementing activities involving nature sports techniques, contributing to adequate group participation and promoting healthy lifestyles through sporting activity.
    Organising activities while ensuring compliance with the safety rules and regulations inherent in the practice of nature sports, intervening responsibly in risk prevention and management.
    Coordinating groups with a view to responsible participation in nature sports and encouraging respect for the natural heritage.
    Managing good practice in nature sports by implementing strategies to preserve natural resources.

  • Recognition of prior learning

    Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.

  • Admission and entry requirements

    Hold secondary education or equivalent, which includes the subject of Portuguese; hold the M23 exams for access to the course; or hold a technological specialisation diploma, a higher professional technical diploma or a higher education degree.
