  • Degree objectives

    The environment is an essential area for the sustainable development of companies, with environmental management (of waste, wastewater, gas emissions, noise) being a legal requirement in all sectors of activity. On the other hand, the food sector, which is of great importance to the economy, has increasing legal and regulatory requirements in terms of quality control and food safety (from production to distribution and catering), making the training of these senior technicians urgent. This is essentially a laboratory-based course. The Senior Technician in Environmental and Food Quality: -performs physical-chemical and microbiological analyses on environmental samples (e.g. water, wastewater) for the analytical control of industrial and treatment processes; -performs physical-chemical and microbiological analyses on food samples for quality control and food safety; -implements Food Safety systems (e.g. HACCP) at the level of production processes, in the distribution chain, catering and hospitality; -coordinates and performs environmental audits; -coordinates and performs health and hygiene audits.

    The course includes a semester of curricular internship in a company, under more than 40 protocols established with companies in the region. The course develops skills, especially laboratory skills, in the following areas: -Environmental Quality: Environmental Analysis Environmental Microbiology Environmental Technologies (Water Treatment, Wastewater and Waste) Noise Analysis -Food Quality: Food Analysis Food Microbiology Food Safety and Hygiene Food Processing and Preservation Technologies

    Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.

  • Admission requirements

    Hold a secondary education qualification or equivalent, which includes the subject of Mathematics; hold the M23 exams for access to the course; or hold a technological specialisation diploma, a higher vocational technical diploma or a higher education degree.
