Course objectives
Data Corner, an official member of the Pack for Skills and EIT Deep Tech Initiative under the European Commission (EC), whose participation with the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, within the scope of the SONDA2026 project, in offering this training proposal aims to contribute to the EC's goal of retraining one million deep tech professionals in Europe by 2025.
Together with short courses based on projects in data science and data analysis, this course is designed for a target audience interested in acquiring practical skills in these three categories of data analysis in a short period of time (3-4 months) and using them to deal with real problems.
In addition, participants in these training courses will have an online profile on the Elites Galaxy platform, which is recognised by the European Commission's Pact for Skills programme as an innovative social network for lifelong learning.
This project-based course is aimed at candidates who have knowledge of programming and database administration and who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of Data Engineering. The course focuses on providing students with the knowledge and practical experience necessary to design and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines in Data Engineering projects. Throughout the course, students will learn concepts about the fundamentals of Data Engineering, data warehousing architecture, data sources, metadata management, and data integration. In addition, they will gain practical experience in building ETL pipelines
using the following tools: Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Talend, with developments in Python. The course emphasises a project-based learning approach, in which students will have the opportunity to work on real Data Engineering projects, allowing them to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-world scenarios. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a data analysis hackathon, with the aim of applying their new skills to solve real-world problems using Data Engineering techniques. -

Learning objectives and skills to be developed
The training program focuses on teaching trainees the fundamental concepts and techniques
of data engineering, with a particular emphasis on implementing ETL (Extract, Transform,
Load) projects and adopting ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) approaches.
• The program also emphasizes the development of teamwork skills, enabling students to
actively participate in data engineering projects through hands-on experience.
• As part of the training program, students have the opportunity to attend data analytics
hackathons, where they can apply what they have learned to solve real-world problems by
delivering innovative data engineering solutions.
• The program also aims to familiarize students with research works in the data engineering
domain, thereby helping them to stay up-to-date with the latest developments and best
practices in this rapidly evolving field -
